Romney loses momentum as Huckabee regains ground

Mitt Romney, the clearest loser from Super Tuesday, today gathered his advisers for an early-morning meeting in Boston to review the future of his campaign although his team insisted the fight for the Republican nomination will continue.
With a disappointing haul of six victories, two of which were in his "home" states of Massachusetts and Utah, the businessman-turned-politician fell victim to a southern resurgence by rival conservative Mike Huckabee.

With just 268 delegates in the bag, Romney faces a mathematical mountain to catch John McCain's running total of 615.

...Republican strategists say Romney must prove he can win in the south in order to remain viable - which means a victory in either Virginia or Maryland next week to keep him in the race until the Texas battle on March 4, where McCain has traditionally been unpopular.

I think Huckabee is still in the race. He's gonna have to battle it out with Romney because McCain is far ahead. But anything is possible.

An underdog for months, Sen. John McCain became the clear Republican favorite for president Tuesday, winning impressive coast-to-coast victories in New York, Illinois and California and taking a commanding lead in delegates.

"Tonight, I think we must get used to the idea that we are the Republican Party front-runner for the nomination for the presidency of the United States," McCain told cheering supporters in Phoenix as Super Tuesday drew to a close.

The Arizona senator, whose campaign for the White House was all but declared dead six months ago, won Missouri, New Jersey and his home state. McCain also finished first in Connecticut, Delaware and Oklahoma.

The night's biggest loser undoubtedly was former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who trailed in all but a handful of the states and lost the battle for conservative, evangelical voters to ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

An ordained Southern Baptist minister, Huckabee showed surprising resilience by posting a string of victories in the South, including the Bible Belt states of Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and his home state.

I definitely think McCain was an Underdog. I was actually not surprised by McCain but I also though Huckabee would at least take second place. But you saw what happened at the Super Bowl everyone exept me were rooting for the Patriots. But the Giants being the underdogs won and pulled off the biggest upset. Go NY!!!!

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won victories over Sen. Barack Obama in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York last night, giving her presidential campaign a crucial boost. But Obama countered by winning a string of states, including the general election battleground of Missouri, in the seesaw race for the Democratic nomination.

...Clinton claimed four of the five biggest prizes in Super Tuesday's 22-state Democratic competition. She also captured Arizona, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Those victories helped stem what appeared to be gathering momentum around Obama's candidacy since he won in South Carolina on Jan. 26.

But Obama won in more places than his New York rival, racking up victories in his home state of Illinois, as well as Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota and Utah. His narrow victory in Missouri came after Clinton appeared on the brink of winning there. Only the outcome in New Mexico remained unresolved early this morning.

I knew this race would be close. I think they both are really good candidates and that this is probably one of the best elections in history. Now i can't say who exactly is going to win because they are in a dead tie
